STATEMENT

What do I feel when I say the name of my film «TRAP»? This is a precious crystal that shines in its mystery. This is my childhood in a dark wet panel suburb of Prosveschnia street where I was a small girl born in 1995. 10 years old Me leaves home and goes to music school. And on my way through the yards there are furious and hungry street dogs, drug addicted and alcoholic people who attack the local shop, toxic old women and dangerous boys who call me in the dark. Then in the beginning of 2000 I didn't realise the reality around me was a trap. It was though.

NOT ONLY SHORT

The whole production period of this short was made during three years. Why so long? Because I finished Saint Petersburg School of New Cinema and this project for me was still a real story and a challenge of my desire to be a film director. During the whole production period I made some rehearsals with my 10 unprofessional actors. Now my dear colleague and friend Natalya and Me manage our own acting agency TRAP.AGENCY with the casting of my short film.

BERLINALE JURY STATEMENT:

„Through a masterfully crafted montage, fragments of the lives of young people, seemingly stuck in a controlling and oppressive society emerge. The carefully and minimally constructed narrative is used to draw us cinematically into a feeling of both ecstasy, resistance and hopelessness all at once. The forceful last scene puts us in a vortex of energy, leaving us no choice but to become a part of this world, by transporting us to an empowering communal feeling through the camera's eye – produced by desires to imagine, trust and resist together."
